My family. Of all the things I may have accomplished in life - nothing is as important as this group here. Claudette and I have five children and eight beautiful grandkids - and one more on the way. As a public servant, I try to keep in mind how the policies we develop today will affect them in the future.

Floor Debate. This was taken during floor debate in the old Senate Chambers.

George Washington said "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action."

My role, as your representative, is to make sure that the powers of government are closely defined, carefully watched, it's power limited, and it's growth contained.

I also strive to make sure - in those few needs only government can meet - that it does so well and efficiently.

Like I mentioned above, I approach public service with one goal in mind: to help ensure that my grandchildren will be free to follow their dreams and have the same opportunities and blessings afforded to me.
